After a long-awaited start to its season, Olivet’s junior varsity softball team swept a doubleheader from non-league foe Springport, 15-6 and 11-8, Monday at home.
Alex Desonia went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI to lead Olivet offensively, while winning pitcher Allie Wethy struck out nine and scattered seven hits during her four innings of work.
The Eagles scored six runs in the first inning, three in the second and six in the third en route to victory.
In the second game, Olivet jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and then cruised despite collecting only two hits. Wethy and Hannah Harris had the Eagles’ lone safeties, while Desonia, Kaitlyn Taylor and Teonna Feldpausch scored two runs apiece.
Taylor also picked up the pitching win, striking out three and allowing only two hits in 3 1/3 innings.
