In just a matter of days, Olivet High School student-athletes in five different programs will begin their winter sports seasons.
The first winter team to play during the 2014-15 campaign will be the 9th grade girls’ basketball team, under first-year coach Jay Magro, as the Eagles travel to Coldwater for a 4:30 p.m. game on Tuesday, December 2.
The freshmen girls also will be the second OHS team to play when they host Parma Western on Friday, December 5 at 4 p.m. That contest will be followed by junior varsity and varsity girls’ basketball season-opening home games against Maple Valley – starting at approximately 5:30 and 7 p.m. respectively. The J.V. girls will be coached by Elliott London, while head coach Rob Fleming and assistant Russ Stolberg will direct the varsity squad.
The boys’ basketball program will tip off its season on Tuesday, December 9 at Battle Creek Pennfield. Coach Marvin Freed’s freshmen team will play at 4:15 p.m., Coach Chad Loveless’s junior varsity squad will play at 5:45 p.m. and Coach Travis Brown’s varsity group will play at 7:15 p.m.
The varsity wrestling team, under the direction of first-year coach Brandon Peters, opens its season at the Napoleon Invitational on Saturday, December 13.
Olivet also has a bowling team this winter, with the program’s inaugural match coming against Lansing Christian on Thursday, January 8 at 3:30 p.m. Susan Higgins is the Eagles’ coach.
Rounding out OHS’s winter programs are the varsity and junior varsity basketball cheer squads, who are coached by Ashlee Deland and Tracey Kring. They will perform at home games throughout the season.
