Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Olivet Sweeps Perry on Senior Night

Recap from OHS Varsity Softball Coach Jeff Taylor…

The Olivet varsity softball team completed the conference portion of its schedule Tuesday evening with a doubleheader sweep of Perry, 7-3 and 2-0.

In the first game, the Eagles erased a 1-0 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. They added another run in the fifth frame and then survived a two-run rally by the visiting Ramblers in the sixth.

Sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Groves posted her 10th win of the year, scattering four hits and striking out nine. Senior Jordan Richmond had a double and triple for the Eagles, while senior Kara Mott had a pair of RBI.

The nightcap proved to be a pitchers’ duel, with Olivet senior Shawna Morton giving up just three hits and striking out eight while throwing only 61 pitches.

By winning, the Eagles improved to 21-7 overall and 7-3 in the Greater Lansing Activities Conference, good for second place behind league-champion Lakewood.

Olivet returns to action on Wednesday, May 25 when it travels to Plainwell for a doubleheader. Game time is 4:00 PM.
