One of the biggest days of the year for the Michigan High School Athletic Association is upon us!
Fortunately, several Olivet Eagles will take part in the excitement this Saturday, with eight athletes competing in the Division 3 state track & field meet at Comstock Park High School and the baseball and softball teams playing Division 2 district semifinal games at Harper Creek High School.
Most impressive among the track qualifiers is junior Logan Kyre, who will participate in four events — the 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles, 400 relay and 800 relay. She is joined on both relays by Noelle Rohde, who also will compete in the long jump, and Taylor Sinclair, a 100 dash finalist.
Makenzie Lambka (400) and Kay Morton (800) round out the Lady Eagles’ relay teams, while Bailey Hoffman will heave the shot put.
On the boys’ side, Silver Dotts (110 & 300 hurdles) and David Hewer (pole vault) will represent Olivet.
The baseball and softball teams advanced to Saturday’s semifinals following convincing victories over Battle Creek Pennfield on May 31. The baseball squad outslugged Pennfield, 18-10, while the softball unit blanked the Panthers, 14-0.
Both teams will take on Coldwater, with the baseball game scheduled to start at 10:00 AM and the softball affair slated for 12:00 PM. On the other side of the bracket are Harper Creek and Marshall. The championship games could start as early as 2:00 PM.
