A pair of experienced big-meet runners, Morgan Greenman and Isaac Waffle, led the way for their respective Olivet High School cross country teams at Saturday’s MHSAA Division 3 Finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
Greenman, a senior making her third and final appearance at the state meet, finished 62nd out of 237 runners with a time of 20:38.1. Her performance helped the Olivet girls’ team place 13th in the 27-team field.
Waffle, a sophomore making his second appearance at MIS, crossed the line 36th in 17:00. He missed all-state recognition by six spots and 10.5 seconds. As a team, the Olivet boys finished 24th.
Rounding out the local girls’ placers were Autumn Wietzke (65th), Kaylee Richardson (116th), Miranda Barnes (126th), Hazel Anderson (177th), Grace Mott (214th) and Kelsie Letts (226th). Wietzke was the ninth-fastest freshman in the race.
Senior standout Teona Feldpausch did not run for the Eagles on Saturday due to a lower back injury.
Colton Graves (180th), Sam Smith (184th), Joel Fudge (189th), Colin McDowell (209th), Devin Feldpausch (217th) and Nate Zona (223rd) were the other finishers for the Olivet boys, who fielded an all-underclassmen lineup.
