For the next 10 days, Olivetathletics.com will count down the Top 10 Olivet High School sports stories for 2016-17. So, without further ado, here is No. 10…
In only its third year of existence, the Olivet High School girls’ golf program claimed its first state meet qualifier.
Junior Logan McLane carded a 92 on October 5, good enough for second place out of 58 golfers in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 Regional Meet at Glenbrier Golf Course in Perry. The impressive 18-hole score qualified McLane individually for the MHSAA Division 4 State Finals October 14-15 at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in Lansing.
The only golfer to score better than McLane at the regional was Lansing Catholic’s Abigail Meder, who fired a blistering 86. Caitlin Lysher of Napoleon shot a 92 as well.
At the state meet, McLane posted a 36-hole total of 198, finishing in the middle of the pack of individual qualifiers.
“What makes Logan a successful golfer is her passion for the game, her competitive spirit and an ability to work harder than her competitors,” Olivet coach Suzie Kramer said.
McLane also enjoyed a strong regular season that included a No. 2 overall ranking in the Greater Lansing Activities Conference and a second straight All-GLAC first team recognition.
