Rob Fleming, the legendary Olivet High School basketball coach, will be honored during a halftime ceremony on Tuesday, January 2 when the OHS varsity girls’ basketball team hosts Homer at 7:00 PM.
Fleming coached 20 varsity seasons for the Eagles – 11 with the boys’ program (1989-2000) and nine with the girls (2008-2017). His 365 career victories and two trips to the Final Four (boys in 1995 and girls in 2009) make him an obvious choice for the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame in the near future.
All of Fleming’s former varsity players and assistant coaches will be admitted free of charge on January 2. They are encouraged to meet in the OHS cafeteria between 6:00-7:00 PM for conversation and refreshments, watch the first half of the Olivet-Homer game that is scheduled to tip off around 7:00 PM, and then join us in paying tribute to the “old ball coach” somewhere between 7:30 and 8:00 PM.
There will actually be a basketball tripleheader on January 2, with the Olivet 9th grade girls’ team taking on Coldwater at 4:00 PM followed by the Olivet-Homer junior varsity girls’ contest around 5:30 PM.
Homer’s varsity girls’ basketball team is coached by Tom Fleming, who is Rob’s brother.
