Tuesday was a good day for Olivet High School spring sports teams.
The varsity baseball and softball teams, along with the girls’ soccer squad, advanced in their respective district tournaments with victories over GLAC rival Lakewood. Coach Bill Whitely’s baseball team (16-11) posted a 9-7 win; Coach Jeff Taylor’s softball unit (20-11) cruised to an 8-2 victory; and Coach Marco Hernandez’s soccer club (11-6-2) blanked the Vikings, 7-0.
Next up for the baseball and softball teams are Saturday’s semifinal match-ups with Hastings at Marshall High School. The baseball game starts at 10:00 AM, while softball is scheduled for 12:00 noon. On the other side of both brackets are Pennfield and Marshall. As for girls’ soccer, the Lady Eagles will play Lansing Catholic in a district semifinal on Thursday at 5:00 PM at Williamston High School – with the winner advancing to Saturday’s championship game.
In addition to the three wins over Lakewood yesterday, several individuals from the OHS track & field teams turned in outstanding performances at the Greater Lansing Honor Roll Meet of Champions in East Lansing. Highlights included Colin Grady’s first-place finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and Bailey Hoffman’s school-record throw of 125’8” in the discus. She now shares the record with Jamie Wells, who established the mark in 2001.
